NAVY PIER
CONCERT REVIEW
(POODLE HAT TOUR)
This concert was on July 26, this was my 2nd concert, and an experience that I will never forget. I went with my friend, Gail. There were two shows, one was at 7:00PM and one was at 10:00PM. We got tickets to the 10:00PM show. But, we got there at 7:00PM anyway just to walk around Navy Pier and have some dinner. Eventually, we walked over to Al's around 8:15PM. I couldn't see Al, because they had the walls up, but I could hear him. I was singing and dancing to every song outside by the ticket booth. The gate girl was watching me and was amazed because this album was just released a few months ago and I already knew all of the words. The gate girl was watching me, the bartender came over and started watching me, another gate girl came over and started watching me. Sooner or later people just walking down Navy Pier came over and started watching me. It was like I was putting on my own "Weird Al" show! I didn't mind, I was so into Al's show, and I wasn't even watching it yet. The gate girl left, and when she came back, she brought a security gaurd with her. The security gaurd came up to me and said "Come on in." He let me and Gail in to the first show! Skip (Al's tour manager) came up and said "No, they are not allowed into this section." Then the security gaurd said "No, they're my family." And Skip let us in. The security gaurd had me watch the show from where Al's tour bus drivers and other people that work for Al were sitting. Still, I was singing and dancing. Eventually, Al's people turned around and started watching me. It was great. At the end of the show, I walked up to the security gaurd and thanked him. He said "You were having too much fun out there, we had to let you in." Then I told him I was going to the second show and he said "If you don't like your seats, come find me." I had second row seats, so there was no need to talk to the security gaurd. My seat was literally right in front of Steve Jay. Throughout the whole entire second show, Steve was making goofy faces at me and was singing to me and playing to me. It was a lot of fun. There were two shows on this date, so Al had to cut the show short. But it was still a great show. Here is the review of the second show:
"Fun Zone" started and everyone was very energetic. Then, we watched the clips and heard the series of "Are You Ready For "Weird Al" Yankovic?" and everyone screamed. Al came out and did "Angry White Boy Polka"
The only problem with the seats was that I was so far over that I could only see one side of Al. Oh well. Steve kept me entertained by singing to me and playing right to me. He is really the nicest guy.
Then, Al came out and said "HELLO CHICAGO!" and everyone screamed. Then Al said "It's great to be back in Navy Pier. Gosh, we haven't played here since...7:30PM!" everyone laughed. Then he said "You know, I am very upset that not many people know and understand the devistating seriousness of leperosy. I'm going to change that right now." Then Al went into "Party At The Leper Colony". Al did some funny dance moves in this song. And he rocked out with Jim.
After "Party At The Leper Colony", Al tried to talk to us when all of a sudden *RING RING* a cell phone rang. Al said "Excuse me, but if you don't mind turning off your cell phones." I remembered this from the other concert and screamed out "It's Yours Al! Check Your Pocket!" Steve looked down at me and heard me, he then walked over to Al, and whispered to him. Al checked his pocket and took his cell phone out. Then he said "Oh...sorry, I gotta take this call." Then they started up "A Complicated song." Steve was making goofy faces at me during this one. We were having so much fun singing to each other.
Then, Al went back for a costume change and when he came back, he did "Wanna B Ur Lovr." It was excellent. Al came out into the audience and danced with every girl he walked by. He did the "KABLAAM" line to a girl about 4 seats over. This was probably the best performance of the night. It was fun to see everyone's reaction. I love it at the end when Al starts screaming. And who can't love the little face he puts on in the end. Great performance, great song.
Al went back for another costume change and he came back and did "Trash Day." This was fun to watch because he didn't do this one at Summerfest. Al went over to Steve and leaned on his shoulder. It was very cool of Nelly to let Al use his clothes.
Another costume change, and then the medley. Everyone loves the accordion lift in "Theme From Rocky XIII (Rye or the Kaiser.)" In "Jurassic Park," Steve is in charge of the loud noises because he is the bassist. Anyway, during "Jurassic Park," Steve walked over to these HUGE speakers and gave me a hint that it's going to be loud. When he hit the strings it was really loud and to make me laugh, his eyes bugged out. It was so funny. Everyone loved "Free Delivery," it is so great. I'm actually glad he didn't put that on an album, it's fun to see the reaction of people who haven't heard it. "Eat It" never seizes to amaze me the way he does the back bend and the leg thing. Amazing.
After the medley, there was another costume change. Al came out and did "Smells Like Nirvana." It was great. Al came over to our side, right in front of me singing. Of course, everyone loved the gargling. And he threw out two cups of water. Steve and Jim switched sides for like 30 seconds and I quickly took a picture of Jim because he was right in front of me. With my luck, when the picture came out, the spotlight came out and made Jim a little blurry. Oh well.
Then came "Amish Paradise." When Al waved his arms, he expected everyone in the audience to wave their arms with him. Almost everyone did wave their arms, but Al found one person who wasn't waving. He stopped singing, and stared at them. They still didn't. Al waved to them and eventually the guy got the hint, and started waving his hands.
After "Amish Paradise" was "Couch Potato." At the end Al flashed a peace sign at us. Very cool.
Then was "Fat." Al came out as an 800 pound Michael Jackson. Steve, Al, and Jim did the Fat dance a little different this time. They got on there backs and kicked there legs out. When they were suppose to get off the ground, Al and Jim got up, but Steve was haveing a bit of trouble. Al helped him up and then made fun of him. Everyone jumped up when Al hit the ground. The band did there solos and it was amazing.
We called him back for an encore
Ruben came out and did his Darth Ruben dance and then "The Saga Begins" started up. Al held the "He's" in "He's a ghost" for 26 seconds. It was amazing.
Then Al did "Yoda" and he started out with swaying his head. Everyone applaud when they saw Al's head sway back and forth. When the "Yoda Chant" started, I did it with them, and Steve was watching me the whole time.
